Vibrant Cast, Solid premise, backing by superstars... All attempts gone awry

Fugly Movie Review

A story based on the life of Delhiites about their attitude. As usual they aren’t scared of anyone, even to the extent of not paying any heed to the regulations of the police force. Habituated, they often tend to break rules off and on, which lands them in a bigger problem, leading to any consequences – for which they have themselves to blame. (Fugly – Hindi Movie review)

“Fugly” is a story of four close friends Dev (Mohit Marwah), Devi (Kiara Advani), Gaurav (Vijendra Singh) and Arfi Lamba (Tatti). Here Gaurav is a son of politician (Hari Singh Ahalawat) who is instrumental in often bailing out his friends whenever they are in a ditch. Or in simple words ‘saved’ whenever they break any rules. Hence these four move around as ‘tension free guys’.

Complication arises when a Shopkeeper happens to touch Devi and she immediately conveys this to her friends. The usual guy theory, they gang up, go and beat the shopkeeper at his shop and even go to the extent of kidnapping him. Incidentally or to put it that it was a bad day for them, as at Traffic Signal they are stopped by Inspector Chautala (Jimmy Shergil) a bold person, who doesn’t believe in bowing under any higher ups or politician’s pressure. His mantra in life – his dharma is simple, make money as he is known for taking bribes.

Now comes the Twist when Chautala kills the shopkeeper and connivingly, he registers a Murder charger on these Four friends. To set themselves free, a penalty of 61 Lakhs is thrust on them. He knows it would be difficult for the friends to arrange for the sum, and as planned by him, he starts blackmailing them.

This is blatant misuse of power of a cop as he thinks that these helpless collegians have nowhere to go except face the charges, and now it would be easy for him to blackmail them for money misusing his power.

It is here that our cop Mr. Chatala forgot a simple, yet very important thing.

These friends were in Delhi and Delhiites are never scared of anything in this world. It was of this simple oversight or if we say simply, underestimation of the collegians, that the wily Chautala will have to pay a heavy cost.

Besides this game of wits, there are some realistic instances in reference to the lifestyle and behaviourial attitude of the Delhiites which makes the film worth a watch as it is totally about fun, about the Life of Dilli.

Music of the film is catchy “Yeh Fugly Fugly kya hai” will bring you to Cinemaa halls to know the meaning of Fugly. Fugly can be described as totally Fuglypathi where you will have Harayanvi language.

Two Stars to the Film – One Star goes to enthusiastic Dilli Lifestyle with its phenomenal language, The other star goes to the Mohit – Vijender duo for its ravishing performance. Rest of the entire Cast are just pathetic.

The least was expected from the Direction department as the previous outing from the same director was just a waste of time and money. Had he put in efforts, it would have turned out to be a well written, tight script could have kept the audience interest in the film right till the end.

Except for watching Mohit Marwah (Sonam Kapoor and Arjun Kapoor’s cousin), and even more than him, the young generation would like to go and watch it for our Olympian medalist Vijender Singh in his debut film. He is just awesome. Other than these guys, there aren’t any praiseworty performances from rest of the cast, and hence support of special appearances by Akshay Kumar and Salman Khan.

Fugly lacks a proper plotline, over and above this its bad in the departments in narration and screenplay. About the acting performances, the least said the better.

Rating :** Stars to the film
